What Does P.R.G.F. Stand For?

Digg! PRGF stands for Plasma Rich in Growth Factors. PRGF is a breakthrough technique for bone and tissue regeneration conceived and developed by BTI Biotechnology Institute over the past seven years.

Plasma Rich in Growth Factors is used to enhance and maximize bone regeneration, as well as healing from a variety of surgical procedures.  PRGF is created in our office by taking a small amount of the patient’s own blood and centrifuging it according to the protocol of Dr. Eduardo Anitua, a world-renowned physician, dentist, researcher, and educator from Spain.  PRGF is mixed with graft materials, or used by itself, to promote faster healing for patients!

This system is based upon the application of growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-b, EGF, VEGF, IGF-I, bFGF and HGF.
These proteins-once stimulated-promote the synthesis of new bone and the repair of other soft tissue in the areas in which surgery is performed.

We are one of only 3 dental offices in America using this remarkable technique developed in spain to aid in the speed and success rate of our dental implants and bone grafts.

How is it used?

Bone grafts

PRGF allows its aplication with graft material.

The PRGF aggregate which contains the graft acquires a gummy consistence, very malleable, which is very easy to compact.

What are the benefits?

Combined application of PRGF with bone obtained during the drilling provides an osteoinductive, autologous graft which replaces and improves the synthetic materials commonly used.

Wetting Implants

”Wetting” Implants with unactivated PRGF
PRGF can be applied directly onto the surface of dental implants.
What are the benefits?

The combined application of PRGF on BTI dental implants’ surface improves osseointegration and enhances primary stability in implant surgery.

Fibrin Clots

After PRGF activation, a fibrin clot is obtained.

What are some benefits?
Multiple clinical applications: the fibrin clot’s elasticity allows its pre-shaping and, at the same time, its consistency makes it the ideal material for suturing.

In oral surgery, a fibrin clot can work as a seal in an extraction to protect the PRGF clot from being swallowed or dislodged by the tongue. Additionally, fibrin can be shaped as a biological membrane that covers a PRGF-compacted graft.

Please feel free to discuss PRGF with one of our doctors
